About the Role

Join Solar Provider Group (SPG) in building the future of sustainable energy! The Interconnection Specialist is an instrumental role at SPG that impacts a solar project's success throughout the development cycle. It is an exciting position where every day can be different and involves communication with multiple internal and external stakeholders in various jurisdictions.


The Interconnection Specialist is the single point of contact with utilities, responsible for building relationships with utility representatives and coordinating all applications, communications and transactions with utilities. The Interconnection Specialist is also responsible for reporting deadlines and pending expenses internally and maintaining current interconnection dashboards. Furthermore, the Interconnection Specialist is responsible for using all available information about the grid to locate regions favourable for solar development.


Duties and Responsibilities


  • Prepare, submit and coordinate interconnection pre-applications and applications to utilities

  • Maintaining current interconnection queue trackers

  • Provide interconnection information for project budgeting and timelines

  • Review and manage interconnection contracts and provide information to de-risk projects

  • Ensure compliance with utility interconnection standards

  • Submit weekly updates to Senior Project Managers identifying pending submission and payment deadlines

  • Be persistent in ensuring payments are made and documents uploaded/sent to the appropriate portal/coordinator before deadlines

  • Facilitating payments to utilities

  • Identifying regions within utility territories with available hosting capacity and favorable queue positions

  • Analyze all available resources about the grid to identify regions suitable for solar development and land acquisition campaigns (e.g. interconnection queues, trackers, pre-apps, integrated resource plans, etc.)

  • Promptly submitting interconnection applications to secure favorable queue positions

  • Build relationships and liaise with utilities to effectively manage interconnection processes

  • Serving as the primary point of contact between SPG and utilities for all projects and promptly responding to utility communications

  • Maintain current records of interconnection applications, studies, agreements, payments and communications in the appropriate project folders

  • Maintain current dashboards displaying the status and key information of all interconnection applications

  • Any other duties assigned by the manager

  • Report to a Senior Project Manager

Requirements

  • Relate to the SPG core values: team-play, tenacity, sharing, sustainability, passion, and ownership.

  • Passionate about renewable energy and motivated by a desire to mitigate climate change.

  • Successful completion of a university degree in Engineering.

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in engineering, experience in electricity infrastructure and grid architecture preferred. 

  • Thorough understanding of grid infrastructure components and electrical engineering terminology. 

  • Knowledge and experience of ArcGIS or other GIS software is an asset.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.

  • Work effectively in a fast-paced working environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, reporting and collaboration skills.
